Mistress Fatima dotes on her like a daughter; Hitara studies Euclid’s Elements and more. Eight years after heir Muhammad leaves for Nishapur to study, Mongols sack Tus. Tolui’s army captures Hitara; Fatima dies protecting her. The Elements is seized too. Taken to Mongolia, Hitara begins plotting revenge.
